Taking the Web with you

Posted On //
When  I first got Internet back in the 1990s, I never would have imagined the kind of progress we have made today. No way would you have been able to convince me that I could send files or instant messages (they were still called instant messages back then) over a telephone. Back then I could hardly imagine handheld phones the way they are now. I had a car phone, but it was expensive and utterly useless outside of the car.

Website development has certainly come much farther in the past fifteen years or so. Sites load way faster than they ever did before. They have interactive properties, videos, beautiful image galleries and even shopping carts, making everything we do on the net much easier, safer, and more secure than before. Website development has grown in leaps and bounds, and only promises to do the same in the future. I can't even imagine what kind of developments will happen in the next ten years or so. I'm sure I'll come to accept whatever it is as normal and natural, but when I think back to today I'll be baffled at how we managed to survive without such-and-such an application or feature.

One of the newer applications is the mobile website. This is one way you can take the Web with you wherever you go. When you visit a Website from your smart phone, you will often find, especially among the larger and more popular sites, that there is a mobile site that is much easier to use on your phone. The widgets and icons are larger, and the layout is much simpler and can fit all on one screen without having to enlarge it. One touch menu's are the new (must have) for the business that wants to give their customers a great experience on their smartphone. In fact customers are demanding this ease of navigation and going to another site if they don't get it!

You may also be able to download a site's application for your phone by using the mobile website. I have apps for my bank, a couple of newspapers I like, my favorite football team, and some social networking sites. These apps are really helpful and simplify their use on your phone.

Research shows that consumers are much more likely to visit a business and deal with it regularly, once they have the business app on their phone. Now every business can have a mobile website to give their customers the experience they are looking for and for minimal cost. Imagine having your business app on your customers phone! Then imagine being able to email that customer whenever you have something important to says.like promotions and special offers, direct to their phone. If you own a cafe, tell them about your daily specials, if you're a boutique, tell them about new ranges or a clearance sale. The possibilities are endless!
Mobile networking is much easier now, and I can't even imagine what it's going to be like in the future.
