Gary Mendell is the chairpersonof HEI Hotels and Resorts, based in Connecticut. What's special about that, you say. Well, not many know this, but HEI Hotels and Resorts is the company that owns and operates the Marriott, Le Meridian, Embassy Suites, Hilton, Westin and Sheraton hotels. Yes, all these amazingly rich hotel brands are owned by a single group, HEI Hotels and Resorts. There are a total of 42 hotels that are owned and operated by the group. The group was founded by two brothers, Greg and Steve Mendell. The current chairman of the group is Greg Mendell. All the hotels operated by the group are top class, fully serviced and cater to the top brass of the society. While HEI Hotels and Resorts operate these hotels within the United States, many of these brands have significant global presence as well.Managing such a huge group is no mean feat by any chance, and Gary Mendell does it quite efficiently. The things that Gary looks after are the company's capital formation, corporate strategy, investment management, investor relations and property management. Gary is thus almost single handedly responsible for maintaining the overall structure of HEI Hotels and Resorts. How does he do it? Well we would say he has put his educational background to good use. Gary obtained his BS degree from the School of Hotel Management and Administration, Cornell University and his MBA from School of Business,Wharton University of Pennsylvania. HEI was not born until 1998, before which Gary Mendell worked with other companies, which essentially served as the parent companies of HEI. The journey began in 1985, when Gary co-founded a hotel company with his brother, which began to climb the hotel ranking ladder quite fast. In 1987, Gary decided to part ways, and thus sold most of the company to Starwood Lodging Trust, of which he became the president soon after. Now presiding over the company, and a member of its board of trustees, Gary helped Starwood acquire the Westin group of hotels for a phenomenal price of $2 billion and another company, the ITT group, for an even phenomenal 14 billion, thus marking Starwood's initial major triumphs.
However, in 1998, Gary Mendell left Starwood to venture out on his own, and this resulted in the establishment of HEI in 1998. Gary had had enough of working under someone, and now wanted to be the boss of his own company. Using his vast experience, Gary soon put the company in high power, and he earned many awards.Such is the multitude of awards received by the group under Gary Mendell's able guidance. The company currently has over 5000 associates, and that's a lot of employees.
