The Football Queen

Posted On //
My name is Nicole Y. Thomas-Hawkins. (Yeah, I know…really long name.) I am just a regular every day girl, who was born and raised in the outskirts of Charles County and I am…wait for it…in LOVE with football! (Don’t think my husband’s going to like that, but there’s enough of me to go around. Hehe!)

I’ve been a die-hard football fan for quite some time now. When I first started learning the actual rules of the game, I had many questions. I’m quite sure my husband was SO tired of me throwing him question after question, but he would never show it or react that way, which was good for him if you get my drift! I was truly thankful for his support in helping me gain the knowledge of football that I have.

My love for football can be sometimes weird because when my husband and I are with other couples and the men are watching a game, it’s usually expected of me to be with the women talking and maybe having a glass of wine, but that’s never the case with me. If there is a game on (it really doesn’t matter who’s playing), it is a MUST that I’m in front of a TV watching it somewhere; somehow; someway. I get antsy if I can’t get to a TV to watch all, not just my favorite team, but all of the games that may come on that day. It even makes me mad when people schedule events that I have to attend around the same time that a game is coming on..ugh! I do, however, feel bad (after the games are all over that is) because sometimes watching the games require me to leave my friend(s) alone to either talk amongst themselves or twiddle their thumbs, or they can just have the luxury of joining me while I bask in my glory of watching running backs juke defensive players and quarterbacks perfect their art of throwing to their wide receivers or tight ends. Oh my, I think I just had a footballgasm just talking about it! (haha – just kidding) Okay, focus.

More about me, my favorite team is the Washington Redskins. They have been a part of my life since I can remember. The love for the team has been something that has been passed down by my grandfather, my dad, my uncle, and many more of countless other relatives. And once I met my husband and found out that he was a Redskins fan, oh my, it was love at first football team! Now, we have two little mini Redskins fans (ages 5 and 11), who gets just as depressed as mommy when we lose!

The sport is truly something that I love. I literally watch it every day, even during off-season. At one time, I would watch TV shows like Snapped and Lifetime or Oprah, but those days are long gone. I am hooked. I couldn’t begin to tell you what happened on Desperate Housewives or Housewives of Atlanta or New York because I’m too busy watching ESPN, NFL Network, Playbook, or NFL Total Access. I know; it’s so sad, but my passion for football is crazy and that’s why I’m starting this blog…to help my fellow princesses to become QUEENS with the knowledge of football that I will deliver. We are ready to prove to men (our boyfriends, husbands, coworkers) that FOOTBALL is not just for men, but there are actually women who love the sport and may just know more about it than them!

My hope for this blog is to bring the awareness of football to countless women who are interested in knowing more about the sport, but are too shy to ask their husbands or brothers about it because of the snarling faces that may mirror back at them. I’m here to help…And when you ace your first debate, whether it’s with your husband, father, or coworker; or someone tells your significant other that they are impressed with how much you (a girl) know about football (as was told to my husband), that’s when my mission has been completed! You are then dubbed as a Queen of Football and enshrined into the Football of Queen’s Wall of Fame!

I look forward to posting your picture there!
