When two friends were texting about the big moves they were about to make, they came up with an idea that would solve their problem and many other urban women, while giving back to their local community.
One of the girls, Seattle Army Reservist Zong Her, a fashionista by day and a weekend warrior the third weekend of every month, just found out she was being deployed to Afghanistan this April with an Oregon Transportation Unit and the other girl, Darnell Sue founder of Girl Power Hour, was faced with the decision to stay in Seattle or move to France with her boyfriend who just took a job there. They both realized they had tons of high quality items that they needed to get rid of, but what does a city-dweller girl with no garage do when she wants to sell stuff? When the girls told their friend Darcy Camden, founder of Styled Seattle and resident stylist at KING-5 New Day Northwest, about the concept, she jumped on board; as a stylist, Darcy has helped hundreds of women clean out their closets, and she knows firsthand one person's trash can be another's treasure. Together, the three friends created Urban Girls Garage Sale.
