Are you ready to expose your body on the beaches of Mexico or the Caribbean?
I enjoy beach weather anytime of the year and try to keep my body in shape because you never know when someone will treat you to a Caribbean cruise.
Through the winter months it’s easy to add additional pounds, especially during Christmas when those delicious treats are starring at you and calling – eat me, eat me! Recently I listened to co workers telling me that they needed to lose weight after their Christmas feasting. Most of them wanted to lose 10 pounds to fit into their beach wear because they’ve planned a Spring break trip to Aruba and Hawaii. They asked me what I did to always stay trim and I explained that I try to follow a clean diet of organic vegetables, lean proteins, lots of filtered water and watch my carbohydrate (prefer low density) intake. Mostly I stay off coffee, alcohol, unhealthy fats and try to stay off sugars (my weakness is cookies).
But I believe the biggest weight reducer for me is to cleanse my body of toxins at least twice a year. I’m finding as I get older I need to cleanse more often. I’ve become quite sensitive to the effects of a toxic body and my system lets me know quite readily when it needs help.
A huge part of weight-loss is getting rid of the toxic load on the liver and digestive tract. Toxins make us fat and make us sick. Our mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells and when they become burdened with toxins (fast foods, chemical additives, artificial sweeteners, etc.) these power plants no longer create the energy needed to power the metabolism and fuel the body. Consider the fact that toxins are everywhere – in our water, food cosmetics, body creams, air we breathe, homes and work place. If toxins accumulate to quickly, the body starts to store them in the fat (cellulite – accumulation of fat, toxins and poor circulation). But once the excess fat gets burned up by the body the toxins are released and this is when you need to incorporate a healthy detoxification plan ( drinking lots of filtered water to flush, eating organic vegetables/fruit and take in herbals to assist the liver and antioxidants such as glutathione). This way the body can move the toxic burden out through the gut, skin, lymph and lungs. Remember to support the liver because a constantly stressed liver interferes with bile production, fatigue, weight gain, and toxic build up. When you combine a toxic body with hormonal imbalance, you’re setting yourself up for weight gain. 10 lbs isn’t difficult to lose once you restrict your intake of the poor choices and replace it with healthy choices, it’s your body, respect it. Remember to eat cell friendly foods and they will love you back by working with you to lose the unwanted fat. The fat cells in your body manufacture an anti – craving, appetite-control hormone called leptin. If you secrete enough leptin into your bloodstream, it will quickly switch off your appetite so that you won’t crave or binge on unhealthy foods. Research from a variety of medical journals indicates that a natural , lower fat diet keeps leptin levels elevated, keeping you full and prevents you from overeating. Using a low calorie diet (calories less than your minimum requirement) will slow down your fat cells and lower leptin levels by 50%. The body’s minimum should be your ideal weight x 12. So my ideal weight is 140 lbs x 12 = 1680 calories minimum a day. If I go below this I’ll cut my leptin levels. Another good thing about exercise is it makes your leptin levels work more effectively. Do some additional reading to understand how different hormones can help or destroy your best wishes for your body. Once you start on this healthy pathway you should continue and only have indulgences once a month.
A typical days menu for me:
wake up: Fiber drink
10:00 – Breakfast: Protein Smoothie ( see spinach surprise in food/diet), or oat bran/fruit
supplements
2:00 – Lunch – Protein, Healthy Fat, Vegetables
Baby green lettuce with chicken, avocado and vinaigrette/lemon dressing
4:00 – Snack – either a low density carb/ protein
homemade crackers and soy cheese
or veggies and hummus
or fruit
6:00 – Dinner – Protein, Healthy fat, Vegetables
Salmon, cherry tomatoes/cucumbers, flax oil for dipping
8:00 – Snack – small bowl of berries or organic air popped popcorn
or a green drink
Before dinner: calcium/magnesium and probiotics
Remember to use digestive enzymes when necessary and drink fluids between meals so not to dilute nutrients (stomach has a harder time digesting solids if it’s floating with liquids) at meals.
All the best in health and stay energized!
